If as a visitor to Cape Town you are looking for an extreme sport experience, then paragliding in Cape Town is a must for you.
Paragliding has got to be one of the most amazing experiences of one’s life. Soaring freely like a bird has always been man’s dream and paragliding comes closer to this than any other mode of flight.
Cape Town, as a paragliding destination, has so much to offer. There are just so many mountains from which to launch a paraglider, right on one’s very doorstep, from paragliding Signal Hill, to Lion’s Head (Camps Bay), Table Mountain itself, Little Lion’s Head, Noordhoek Peak and Macassar to name a few. A spectacular paragliding flight is Noordhoek to Hout Bay, above Chapman’s Peak, overlooking the harbour.
Below are some pictures of paragliding at the different Cape flying sites. All these flying sites are within 10 minutes and 35 minutes drive from the Cape Town city centre.
The weather conditions in Cape Town can be extremely localized, so it is recommended that licensed paragliding pilots visiting the Cape paraglide with the Cape Town paragliders in order to learn the local conditions. Don’t paraglide alone or think you know it all, even if you have many hundreds of paragliding flights logged.
A highly recommended paragliding school that you can contact for all information is Birdmen run by Barry Pedersen. These are people you can get in touch with in order to go safely paragliding, whether as a tandem paragliding passenger, or as a licensed paraglider pilot with your own equipment.
