My Cape Town South Africa - Discover South Africa - Great Local Resources

Cape Town

Cape Town is so beautiful and has so much going for it that of course one website can never be enough to cover every single thing that it can offer. So I collect links to other useful sites that complement my site and can help you have the best Cape Town holiday ever.

Suggestions for Further Afield in the Western Cape

Are you also looking a bit further afield than Cape Town? Whenever my family and I head off on holiday in South Africa, we spend quite a lot of time doing research to find the best resources to help us plan our trip. I've been collecting this information on and off for several years. Here are some of the best resources to help you as well.

Garden Route

The Garden Route is an obvious choice for a few days trip from Cape Town. It's a four to five hour drive to the Garden Route. If you feel like a slow trip, or breaking your drive in half, a good town to overnight in is Swellendam. I've stayed at this great little hotel / guesthouse on two occasions now. It's right up my street (Cape Dutch ambience, personalized service, a restaurant with a lot of charm and atmosphere).

Roosje van de Kaap
"There has to be something in the air,
because whenever I drive into this beautiful town and head for Roosje van de Kaap
- my lodgings for many years -
it's as if weeks of fatigue and stress leave my body........
Roosje van de Kaap always puts my soul back into my body."

The first town you'll reach that is technically just outside the start of the Garden Route is Mossel Bay. It's also another good place to consider as a stop over for the night as it's four hours drive from Cape Town.

You can get a lot of information from this Mossel Bay website, which is a more thorough site than I've even seen for many Cape Town sites!

It has everything in one place that a visitor might be interested in - accommodation (high-end to budget), activities (adrenaline junkie stuff to cultural), general information (emergency services, weather, safety) and a whole lot more.

Visit Mossel Bay

"Play, Work, Eat and Sleep - Mossel Bay is a gentle seaside town on the Garden Route of the Western Cape Province of South Africa."

Safari Suggestions

A trip to Cape Town can easily be complemented by a safari tour elsewhere in South Africa, and if you've come all this way to Africa, I'd recommend seriously considering a safari tour to see the natural beauty of the African bush (and the big five of course!).

Here are some good sites to get you started with your research into other safari options.

Magical South African Safaris is written by a local who has a deep love for the African bush, and is a really good place to start to discover what safaris are about. It isn't a commercial site, so you'll get unbiased recommendations and suggestions as well as some reasonably priced suggestions for safari ideas.

Magical Southern African Safaris
"Information, Advice and Pictures of Self Drive Safaris,
Campsites and Destinations in Southern Africa"

Then here are the mainstream safari sites that usually hit Google first page and are backed by large commercial organizations. They are all good resources and you can book tours directly through them.
