Although it is generally referred to as a single suburb by non-locals, the fact is that it is a sprawling area made up of several sub-areas, ranging from rich and wealthy to extremely poor. I’ve had a look around at advertised Hout Bay accommodation and found that the ads on many accommodation sites don’t make mention specifically where in Hout Bay the establishments are. And some of them are definitely in areas that are not the best. I live in Hout Bay and absolutely love the valley, and can highly recommend it to anyone.

So to take the uncertainty of choosing where to stay here in Hout Bay, I’m going to suggest some safe Hout Bay accommodation that is located in only the best areas in Hout Bay.

Upper End / Exclusive Hout Bay Accommodation

This four bedroom self catering home is completely secure and located in Avignon Security Estate near the World of Birds.

La Chaumiere… This thatched house is located in a private Hout Bay security estate high up on the mountains overlooking the bay. I can recommend the area, and the estate highly.

The security estate is on the east side of the valley at the top of Andrews Road and has wonderful evening sunset views overlooking Hout Bay. I could quite imagine myself sitting there sipping an evening cocktail or two to ease into the evening.

Tarragona Lodge… Set off Valley Road, Hout Bay, just a stone’s throw away from my own home, Tarragona is located in a tranquil mountain setting. My friends from Japan stayed there last year and I spent the evening with them at the Lodge having a braai (barbecue). It was really quite a stunning establishment in a stunning location.

Mid Range Hout Bay Accommodation

Dune Lodge … I only know one person (a work associate) who stayed there about 3 years ago. He was perfectly happy there. The location is excellent in terms of sea views, good area, safe and central for Hout Bay. Other online reviews that I have found are also good and endorse my opinion. I’d be happy to recommend this as a good option in Hout Bay.

Seacliffe Lodge … Seacliffe Lodge is located really close to the Hout Bay beach. I have met the lady who runs the lodge as she also runs a beauty salon on the premises which I have on occasion visited. She is friendly and helpful, and I would be happy to recommend the lodge.

The lodge itself is well run, clean and organised. Speaking for myself personally, I try to choose accommodation that has a specific Cape vernacular charm, when deciding where to stay. Seacliffe Lodge doesn’t offer that degree of charm. It isn’t an old Cape Dutch building or Victorian cottage.

Nevertheless it serves its purpose admirably and is in a perfectly good location in Hout Bay with great views of Hout Bay harbour.

Suzy’s Guest Cottage … Suzy’s Guest Cottage is in Hout Bay suburbia. I often go jogging past it and it looks really sweet. It’s in a solid, secure, family neighbourhood, and geographically equidistant to absolutely everything in Hout Bay. I don’t think it has sea views, but the cottage itself is really cute and well positioned, and immaculately and tastefully decorated and maintained.
