Kloof Corner - An Easy Hike, Table Mountain
If you are unfit and want an easy yet spectacular hike on Table Mountain, Kloof Corner is highly recommended. It is a lovely stroll of about 40 minutes (for the really slow).
Hiking up Kloof Corner to watch the sunset from Table Mountain or to catch the rising of the full moon is extremely popular amongst the locals who want to avoid the crowds on Lion's Head.
Strangely enough, the gradient is gentle most of the way, although it wouldn't appear so from the photos of the view from Kloof Corner.
In fact it is so easy that I shouldn't refer to it as a hike. It is actually more of a walk. Cape Town has so many strenuous hikes, that it is nice to find an easy yet spectacular option.
It is easily accessible from the centre of Cape Town as it starts on the road up to the Cape Town Cable Way.
What makes Kloof Corner so nice, is that you actually start relatively high up to begin with, and walk up the slope of Table Mountain, to just under where the cliff face starts.
Table Mountain Safety
You should rightly be concerned about Table Mountain safety and reports of crime on Table Mountain. Table Mountain has had its share of crime, usually muggers taking their chance to relieve you of your belongings. So never walk alone. Groups of three or more or around other groups of people is ideal. Kloof Corner is a perfect walk in this regard, because it is popular amongst people who work in central Cape Town. On sunny summer evenings, people walk up Kloof Corner after work, so there are often other groups of people around, which is what you need from a safety standpoint.
How To Find The Walk
Drive up the road to the Table Mountain cableway. Park at the parking on the first left hand hairpin bend. Kloof Corner starts on the bend on the other side of the road. Just follow the path. Here's a map:
