4 Great Weekend Getaways from Cape Town

There are tons of fantastic areas all within two and a half hours drive from Cape Town. From winelands to semi-karoo towns, to watersport paradises, to wild campsites, it’s hard to know exactly where to start describing them.

I’ve picked four of my favourites for now. When I get the chance I’ll add to this list, but for now I’ve chosen to tell you about Langebaan, Temenos, Beaverlac and Namaqualand.

Langebaan

Langebaan Lagoon is a premier watersport destination 1 hr 50 mins drive out of Cape Town. It offers amongst other things: Kite Surfing, Sailing, Windsurfing and Waterskiing. You can also enjoy bird watching and visiting the West Coast National Park from Langebaan.

Here are some links to get you going.

My Self Catering Langebaan Cottage … I love Langebaan so much that I have a little holiday cottage there and I’m shamelessly punting my holiday cottage in this article.

Temenos

Temenos is a spiritual retreat in Mc Gregor, a charming karoo town, two and a quarter hours outside Cape Town. It is a perfect place to escape to and to think about life, in peaceful harmony with nature. Temenos is an interdenominational sanctuary open to all who have a need for spiritual rejuvenation. You can wander around the hidden paths in their wild garden to find your own private spot to just sit and think.

Here’s a link to a fuller description of Temenos.

Beaverlac Campsite

Beaverlac Campsite is one of Cape Town’s best kept secrets. The locals all seem to know about it via word of mouth and talk of it as one of their most special experiences.

Here’s an article I wrote on Beaverlac, with a good map to allow you to find the campsite (it’s in the middle of nowhere and you need a good map).

You simply have to take the opportunity if you are here in spring (August / September) to go on a Namaqualand Wild Flower Trip.
