Kirstenbosch & Rhodes Memorial |Newlands / Bishopscourt

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Bishopscourt is tucked under the back of Table Mountain and is considered part of the Southern Suburbs.

A trip to this area of Cape Town simply has to include a visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens which are on the border of Bishopscourt and Newlands. These gardens are world famous and showcase the amazing biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

In the event that you haven’t hired your own car, there are a number of tourist buses that take visitors to the Kirstenbosch Gardens, so you can usually just enquire at your hotel or accommodation about public transport.

Rhodes Memorial

Also nearby (5 minutes by car) although not in Bishopscourt itself is Rhodes Memorial, which is located up on Table Mountain behind the University of Cape Town. The memorial is dedicated to Cecil John Rhodes, an historical political figure. There is a great restaurant at the memorial with wonderful views over the southern suburbs and out towards Durbanville. I’d recommend a visit, and if you are keen, here’s a good link to give you the information you need.

If you’re interested in either of these places, here are some handy links.

Enjoy your visit to Bishopscourt!
